About This Year's Beneficiary:

The Blue Ribbon Project, is a charity based in Annapolis that serves local victims of child abuse and neglect through their many programs. They seek not only to prevent child abuse and neglect, but also provide a support network for survivors of child abuse, foster care, and child sexual assault. They are a valuable community resource, and through their director Taylor Pyles and their 100% volunteer-supported efforts they provide a plethora of resources for individuals, including:

  • Backpacks of Love: When a child is placed in foster care, they may be taken into care at a moment's notice. Backpacks of Love provides children entering foster care with an age and gender appropriate backpack filled with the necessities for the transition: clothing, toiletries, and age-appropriate books and toys. These are delivered to the child at the Social Services office, hospital, police station, school, or wherever this transition may be taking place.

  • Speak Up... Speak Out: As a means of supporting the prevention of child abuse and neglect, The Blue Ribbon Project has created this program of speakers, either survivors or professionals that work with survivors in order to generate awareness.

  • Aging Up... Not Out: A program for the older children in foster care, created in order to teach the children valuable life skills. Be it getting into college, getting a job, managing diet and personal finance, and so much more, this program helps teach the valuable skills to survive on their own as they become adults.

  • Foster Friends: In order to give foster youth a chance to further develop social skills and build relationships with their peers, The Blue Ribbon Project sponsors their participation in extracurricular activities.

  • JobConnect: This program is a resource connecting prospective employers with foster youth seeking employment.

As you can see, this is an amazing organization we are proud to call this year's Rock The Dock beneficiary. Please join us in supporting their endeavors by attending this event, or making a charitable contribution.
