Annapolis, MD (May 15, 2013) – The Rotary Clubs of Annapolis, Parole, and South Anne Arundel County presented their Service Above Self awards to three local women for their contributions to the community. The joint dinner was held April 18 at the Loews Annapolis Hotel.

Honorees were Sandra Shanahan, a certified pediatric nurse practitioner, for her Shanahan Children’s Clinic in Annapolis (Annapolis Club); architect Catherine Purple Cherry for her work with individuals with developmental disabilities and facilities for those with disabilities (Parole Club); and Allison Holstrom for her work with Food Link and suicide prevention (South County Club).

The Service Above Self Award is Rotary International’s highest honor for non-Rotarians, recognizing those who have displayed exemplary humanitarian service, at any level and in any form, with a focus on active involvement in helping others on a continuing basis. The recipients also are named Paul Harris Fellows, created to honor the founder of Rotary International, with the funds donated to their organizations.
